In today’s world, students are more digitally connected—and yet more socially disconnected—than ever before. Fortunately, play remains a powerful and underutilized tool for rebuilding those human connections. From early childhood through adulthood, play fosters collaboration, creativity, and critical social-emotional learning (SEL) skills. This hands-on workshop invites educators to rediscover the educational power of play through engaging board games that blend academic content—like literacy and math—with essential SEL practices. Participants will have the opportunity to design their own original board game, complete with 3D-printed pieces, and practice facilitating gameplay in a collaborative, maker-style environment.
At the heart of this experience is the concept of playing with intent—using purposeful, well-designed play to support academic standards, promote inclusive learning spaces, and re-engage learners in meaningful, community-centered ways.
